WELCOME TO THE DEPARTMENT OF HERPETOLOGY WEBSITE

The California Academy of Sciences' amphibian and reptile collection is one of the ten largest collections in the world. As of January 1, 2005, the collection contains 284,764 catalogued specimens from 166 countries (map), including important holdings from the western United States and Mexico, Southwest and Southeast Asia, Oceania, and northern, southern, and eastern Africa.
