Appeared as, "On en connait une espèce assez grande du Brésil (Osteoglossum Vandellii, n., ou Ischnosoma bicirrhosum, Spix, xxv)." Current status: Valid as Osteoglossum bicirrhosum (Cuvier 1829). Osteoglossidae. Distribution: South America: Rupununi and Oyapock rivers, Amazon River basin (Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, French Guiana and Peru). Introduced in Hong Kong (China) and the Philippines. Habitat: freshwater.
