bicirrhosum, Ischnosoma Cuvier [G.] 1829:328 [Le Règne Animal (Edition 2) v. 2; ref. 995] Brazil. Holotype (unique): MNHN A-9632. Appeared as, "On en connait une espèce assez grande du Brésil (Osteoglossum Vandellii, n., ou Ischnosoma bicirrhosum, Spix, xxv)." See Opinion 1621 in which this species was established as the senior objective synonym of Osteoglossum vandellii Cuvier and established as the type species of the Osteoglossum. •Valid as Osteoglossum bicirrhosum (Cuvier 1829) -- (Planquette et al. 1996:48 [ref. 22818], Fuller et al. 1999:30 [ref. 25838], Chen 2002:291 [ref. 26587] with authors as Vandelli, Ferraris in Reis et al. 2003:30 [ref. 27061], Leal & Brito 2007:1 [ref. 29313], Barriga Salazar 2014:104 [ref. 35745], DoNascimiento et al. 2017:33 [ref. 35633], Silvano et al. 2020:396 [ref. 38134], Meza-Vargas et al. 2021:14 [ref. 39298], Oliveira et al. 2021:2 [ref. 38218], Koerber et al. 2022:12 [ref. 39235], Chan et al. 2023:133 [ref. 40365], Jamandre 2023:172 [ref. 40455]). Current status: Valid as Osteoglossum bicirrhosum (Cuvier 1829). Osteoglossidae. Distribution: South America: Rupununi and Oyapock rivers, Amazon River basin (Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, French Guiana and Peru). Introduced in Hong Kong (China) and the Philippines. Habitat: freshwater.
