Current status: Valid as Chitala chitala (Hamilton 1822). Notopteridae: Notopterinae. Distribution: South Asia: Mahanadi and Ganga-Brahmaputra River basins, Nepal, India, Bangladesh, Myanmar and Pakistan. Introduced in Hong Kong (China) and the Philippines. Habitat: freshwater.
