formosanus, Salmo Jordan [D. S.] & Oshima [M.] 1919:122, Fig. [Proceedings of the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia v. 71; ref. 10641] Taiko River at Saramao, Nanto, Taiwan. Holotype (unique): TMF. Type catalog: Böhlke 1953:14 [ref. 12291], Ho & Shao 2011:35 [ref. 31432]. Described first as Salmo saramao by Oshima in Jordan & Oshima 1919 (June), but that name has not been used and is regarded as a forgotten name of Salmo formosanus Jordan & Oshima 1919 (ICZN Opinion 2301, Ho & Gwo 2010:300 [ref. 31205]). The description of formosanus was issued 9 Sept. 1919. •Synonym of Oncorhynchus masou (Brevoort 1856) -- (Berg 1948:202 [ref. 12882] as masu, Dorofeeva & Savvaitova 1998:33 [ref. 23574]). •Valid as Oncorhynchus formosanus (Jordan & Oshima 1919) -- (Ho & Gwo 2010:300 [ref. 31205]). •Synonym of Oncorhynchus masou (Brevoort 1856), but a valid subspecies -- (Yue & Chen 1998:13 [ref. 26415], Gwo et al. 2008:778 [ref. 31607], Ho & Shao 2011:35 [ref. 31432], Zhang et al. 2016:189 [ref. 34477]). Current status: Synonym of Oncorhynchus masou (Brevoort 1856). Salmonidae: Salmoninae. Habitat: freshwater, brackish, marine.
