barbatum, Echiostoma Lowe [R. T.] 1843:88 [Proceedings of the Zoological Society of London 1843 (pt 11); ref. 2832] Off Madeira, eastern Atlantic. Holotype (unique): BMNH 1917.7.14.82. Probably should not be treated as an original description without ICZN action. Treated as valid and not the same as Stomias barbatus by current authors.
