Paepke & Seegers 1986:176 [ref. 19981] regard ZMB 1885 as holotype and list questionable paratypes, but if Valenciennes had more than one specimen all must be considered syntypes; Valenciennes' description is apparently based on only one individual. •Valid as Menidia humboldtiana (Valenciennes 1835) -- (Herrera 1896:41 [ref. 39336], Miller 2006:197 [ref. 28615]). •Valid as Chirostoma humboldtianum (Valenciennes 1835) -- (Espinosa Pérez et al. 1993:60 [ref. 22290], Dyer in Reis et al. 2003:518 [ref. 27061], Nelson et al. 2004:98 [ref. 27807], Scharpf 2007:7 [ref. 30398], Page et al. 2013:100 [ref. 32708], Betancourt-Resendes et al. 2019:14 [ref. 37138], Piñeros et al. 2022:3 [ref. 39643]).
