humboldtiana, Atherina Valenciennes [A.] in Cuvier & Valenciennes 1835:479, Pl. 306 [Histoire naturelle des poissons v. 10; ref. 1004] Mexico. Holotype (unique): ZMB 1885. Non-types: MSNG 13927 [ex ZMB] (1); ZMB 1884 (2), 1886-87 (1, 1). Type catalog: Tortonese 1963:333 [ref. 10350] as syntype. Paepke & Seegers 1986:176 [ref. 19981] regard ZMB 1885 as holotype and list questionable paratypes, but if Valenciennes had more than one specimen all must be considered syntypes; Valenciennes' description is apparently based on only one individual. •Valid as Menidia humboldtiana (Valenciennes 1835) -- (Herrera 1896:41 [ref. 39336], Miller 2006:197 [ref. 28615]). •Valid as Chirostoma humboldtianum (Valenciennes 1835) -- (Espinosa Pérez et al. 1993:60 [ref. 22290], Dyer in Reis et al. 2003:518 [ref. 27061], Nelson et al. 2004:98 [ref. 27807], Scharpf 2007:7 [ref. 30398], Page et al. 2013:100 [ref. 32708], Betancourt-Resendes et al. 2019:14 [ref. 37138], Piñeros et al. 2022:3 [ref. 39643]). Current status: Valid as Chirostoma humboldtianum (Valenciennes 1835). Atherinopsidae: Menidiinae. Distribution: Southern North America: Pacific Slope (Mexico). Habitat: freshwater.
