Distribution: Red Sea; Indo-West Pacific: Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa), East Africa, Socotra (Yemen), Comoros, Madagascar and Mascarenes (La Réunion, Mauritius, Rodrigues) east to Hawaiian Islands (U.S.A.) and Pitcairn Group, north to Amami Islands (southern Japan) and Ogasawara Islands (Japan), south to Western Australia, Elizabeth and Middleton Reefs (Australia), New Caledonia and Austral Islands (French Polynesia). Habitat: marine.
