Holotype: USNM 68398. Paratypes: (200 spec., 45 localities). First author is H. M. Smith. •Valid as Apogon compressus (Smith & Radcliffe 1911) -- (Allen & Adrim 2003:35 [ref. 26830], Kimura et al. in Kimura & Matsuura 2003:61 [ref. 27510], Adrim et al. 2004:120 [ref. 27715], Allen et al. 2006:1085 [ref. 29004], Shibukawa 2009:104 [ref. 30449]). •Valid as Ostorhinchus compressus (Smith & Radcliffe 1911) -- (Randall 2005:204 [ref. 28239], Allen & Erdmann 2012:390 [ref. 31980], Fricke et al. 2014:73 [ref. 33932], Mabuchi et al. 2014:199 [ref. 33426], Mabuchi et al. 2015:44 [ref. 34429], Fricke et al. 2019:133 [ref. 36673], Kuiter & Kozawa 2019:121 [ref. 36965], Yoshida in Motomura et al. 2021:25 [ref. 38121]). Current status: Valid as Ostorhinchus compressus (Smith & Radcliffe 1911). Apogonidae: Apogoninae. Distribution: Indo-West Pacific: Andaman Sea east to Philippines and New Ireland (Papua New Guinea), north to Ryukyu Islands (Japan), south to northern Australia and New Caledonia. Habitat: marine.
