Abth.); ref. 4247] Yokohama, Tokyo Bay; Kochi; Kagoshima (Japan). No types known. Appeared first as name in synonymy -- name mentioned in passing in synonymy of Apogon bifasciatus Rüppell 1838. Validated back to Steindachner & Döderlein 1883 based on Jordan & Snyder 1901:749, Pl. 33 [ref. 2504]. The Jordan & Snyder description was based on USNM 49708 from Yokohama, Japan.
