Based on literature sources and specimens. •Treated as valid with date of 1919 -- (Galvis et al. 1997:110 [ref. 23651]). •Synonym of Geophagus hondae Regan 1912 -- (Gosse 1976:82 [ref. 7029]). •Valid as Geophagus steindachneri Eigenmann & Hildebrand 1922 -- (Kullander in Reis et al. 2003:633 [ref. 27061], DoNascimiento et al. 2017:98 [ref. 35633]). Current status: Valid as Geophagus steindachneri Eigenmann & Hildebrand 1922. Cichlidae: Cichlinae. Distribution: Magdalena, Cauca, and Sinú River basins and Limón River: Colombia and Venezuela. Habitat: freshwater.
