Neotype: SMNS 21263. Type catalog: Fricke 1982:77 [ref. 5432], Fricke 2005:21 [ref. 29864]. Neosynchiropus Nakabo 1982 is preoccupied by Neosynchiropus Nalbant 1979 in the same family. Neotype designated by Fricke 2000:32 [ref. 29157]. Distribution: Indo-West Pacific: eastern Indonesia east to Philippines, Palau, Chuuk (Federated States of Micronesia) and Pitcairn, north to Izu Islands (Japan), south to northern Australia and New Caledonia. Records from eastern Mariana and Marshall Islands apparently based on S. moyeri. Habitat: marine.
