schomburgkii, Polycentrus Müller [J.] & Troschel [F. H.] 1849:622 [Reisen in Britisch-Guiana; ref. 3072] Essequibo River, Guyana. Syntypes: ZMB 1024 (2), 20604 (ca. 30). Long recognized as valid, but threatened by Labrus puncatatus Linnaeus 1758 as shown by Paepke 1993 [ref. 20914]. Opinion 1954 in June 2000 removed that threat, and P. schomburgkii is to be given precedence over the name Labrus punctatus whenever the two names are considered synonyms. On the Official List of Specific Names in Zoology. •Valid as Polycentrus schomburgkii Müller & Troschel 1849 -- (Britz & Kullander in Reis et al. 2003:603 [ref. 27061], Phillip et al. 2013:23 [ref. 32896], Coutinho & Wosiacki 2014:747 [ref. 33630], Melo et al. 2016:135 [ref. 34701]). Current status: Valid as Polycentrus schomburgkii Müller & Troschel 1849. Polycentridae. Distribution: Trinidad, and Atlantic coastal rivers of Brazil: Brazil, French Guiana, Guyana, Suriname and Venezuela. Habitat: freshwater, brackish.
