Lectotype: USNM 41166. Paralectotypes: CAS-SU 388 (2), ?USNM 41346 (1). Type catalog: Böhlke 1953:77 [ref. 12291]. Lectotype established (as figured specimen) in Jordan 1896:244 [ref. 2395] if specimen is identifiable; also in caption to Pl. 202, p. 3276 in Jordan & Evermann 1900 [ref. 2446]. •Valid as Xenocys jessiae Jordan & Bollman 1890 -- (Allen & Robertson 1994:155 [ref. 22193], Grove & Lavenberg 1997:410 [ref. 24023], McCosker & Rosenblatt 2010:192 [ref. 30957]). •Valid as Brachygenys jessiae (Jordan & Bollman 1890) -- (Tavera et al. 2018:220 [ref. 35783], Parenti 2019:155 [ref. 37021]). Current status: Valid as Brachygenys jessiae (Jordan & Bollman 1890). Haemulidae: Haemulinae. Distribution: Eastern Pacific: Galápagos Islands endemic. Habitat: marine.
