atlanticus, Emmelichthyops Schultz [L. P.] 1945:133 [Journal of the Washington Academy of Sciences v. 35 (no. 4); ref. 3963] Cat Island, Bahamas, Pawnee station 34, nightlight at surface. Holotype: YPM 2515. Paratypes: USNM 123165 (1). Type catalog: Moore & Boardman 1991:14 [ref. 16741]. Rocha et al. 2008:921 [ref. 29817] referred Inermia vittata to the genus Haemulon, and suggested that Emmelichthyops is unrelated and tentatively belongs in the Emmelichthyidae. •Should provisionally be placed in the Emmelichthyidae -- (Rocha et al. 2008:924 [ref. 29817]). •Almost certainly belongs in the family Haemulidae -- (W. Smith-Vaniz pers. comm. 7/30/2010.) •In family Haemulidae -- (Sanciangco et al. 2011:37 [ref. 31422]). •Valid as Emmelichthyops atlanticus Schultz 1945 -- (Robins & Ray 1986:181 [ref. 23100], Cervigón 1992:342 [ref. 23827], Cervigón 1993:218 [ref. 24474], Orrell 2003:1553 [ref. 27095], Nelson et al. 2004:145 [ref. 27807], McEachran & Fechhelm 2005:383 [ref. 28815], Page et al. 2013:149 [ref. 32708], Smith-Vaniz & Jelks 2014:54 [ref. 33341], Robertson et al. 2016:145 [ref. 34961], Parenti 2019:157 [ref. 37021], Martínez-Servín et al. 2023:114 [ref. 40726]). Current status: Valid as Emmelichthyops atlanticus Schultz 1945. Haemulidae: Haemulinae. Distribution: Western Atlantic: southern Florida (U.S.A.) and Bahamas south to Venezuela, including Caribbean Sea. Habitat: marine.
