darwinii, Oncopterus Steindachner [F.] 1874:172 [Anzeiger der Kaiserlichen Akademie der Wissenschaften, Wien, Mathematisch-Naturwissenschaftliche Classe v. 11 (no. 21) (for 8 Oct. 1874); ref. 20470] San Antonio harbor in San Matías Bay, eastern coast of Argentina. Syntypes: (several) MCZ 11397 (3), 11398 (5 or 4); NMW 43920 (4). Species later illustrated and described in more detail in Steindachner 1875:363 [p. 1 of separate], Pl. 1 [ref. 4221]. •Valid as Oncopterus darwinii Steindachner 1874 -- (Sakamoto 1984:210 [ref. 5273], Inada in Nakamura et al. 1986:314 [ref. 14235] as darwini, Evseenko 1996:727 [ref. 24666] as darwini, López et al. 2002:66 [ref. 26808], Menezes & Figueiredo in Menezes et al. 2003:106 [ref. 27192], Evseenko 2004:19 [ref. 27606], Mabragaña et al. 2011:table S2 [ref. 31800], Fabiano et al. 2014:9 [ref. 33530], Nión et al. 2016:55 [ref. 35565], Spier et al. 2018:18 [ref. 36103], Ribeiro et al. 2019:8 [ref. 36717], Carvalho-Filho 2023:264 [ref. 40480] as darwini). Current status: Valid as Oncopterus darwinii Steindachner 1874. Oncopteridae. Distribution: Southwestern Atlantic: Santa Catarina (Brazil) south to Bahía de San Matías (Argentina). Habitat: marine.
