scaber, Balistes Forster [J. R.] in Bloch & Schneider 1801:477 [M. E. Blochii, Systema Ichthyologiae; ref. 471] Pacific [is Queen Charlotte Sound, New Zealand]. No types known. Based on description in manuscript by Forster (Johann Reinhold Forster, 1729-1798, German explorer and naturalist of Cook's second voyage). The species epithet is an adjective; the proper ending is scabra when in the feminine genus Meuschenia. •Valid as Parika scaber (Forster 1801) -- (Hutchins 1977:56 [ref. 2283], Paulin et al. 1989:243 [ref. 24556], Matsuura in Amaoka et al. 1990:331 [ref. 16024], Paulin & Roberts 1992:115 [ref. 24625], Francis 1993:168 [ref. 25479], Hutchins 2001:48 [ref. 25847]). •Valid as Meuschenia scaber (Forster 1801) -- (Kuiter 1993:405 [ref. 23929], Gomon et al. 1994:885 [ref. 22532], Allen et al. 2006:1890 [ref. 29098], Hutchins 2008:837 [ref. 30658], Matsuura 2014:12 [ref. 33576], Duffy & Ahyong 2015:119 [ref. 36167], Stewart & Roberts 2015:1720 [ref. 34322]). •Valid as Meuschenia scabra (Forster 1801). Current status: Valid as Meuschenia scabra (Forster 1801). Monacanthidae. Distribution: Southwestern Pacific: southern Australia, New Zealand, Kermadec Islands. Habitat: marine.
