abyssalis, Asprocottus herzensteini Taliev [D. N.] 1955:322, Figs. 128-129 [ ref. 4316] Lake Baikal, Russia, depth below 450 meters. Syntypes: (25) ZIN (none found in 1996). Taliev specimens: ZIN 46867 (1), ? 46633 (1). Type catalog: Spodareva et al. 2023:243 [ref. 40445] with neotype. Appeared without distinguishing features and not available in Taliev in Taliev & Koryakov 1947:1838 [ref. 6543]. Sideleva 2001:58 [ref. 26181] names a neotype [ZIN 46633], but if that is the first time a neotype was named it is unavailable under the Code. That neotype repeated in Sideleva 2003:181 [ref. 27815]. •Valid as Asprocottus abyssalis Taliev 1955 -- (Sideleva 1982:29 [ref. 14469], Reshetnikov et al. 1997:760 [ref. 24702] with authorship and date as Taliev & Korjakov 1947, Sideleva 1998:155 [ref. 23595], Bogutskaya et al. 2001:47 [ref. 26178] with authorship and date as Taliev & Korjakov 1947, Sideleva 2001:61 [ref. 26181] with authorship as Taliev & Korjakov 1947, Kontula et al. 2003:149 [ref. 26791], Sideleva 2003:17, 181 [ref. 27815] with authorship as Taliev & Korjakov 1947, Bogutskaya & Naseka 2004:194 [ref. 28183], Goto et al. 2014:[15] [ref. 33456], Bogdanov 2018:118 [ref. 37168], Dyldin et al. 2020:115 [ref. 37569]). •Valid as Abyssocottus abyssalis (Taliev 1955) -- (Bogdanov 2023:65 [ref. 40329]). Current status: Valid as Asprocottus abyssalis Taliev 1955. Cottidae. Distribution: North Asia: southern part of Lake Baikal (Russia). Habitat: freshwater.
