multidens, Astyanacinus Pearson [N. E.] 1924:41, Pl. 9 (fig. 4) [Indiana University Studies v. 11 (no. 64); ref. 3396] Río Colorado, Lower Bopi, Bolivia. Lectotype: CAS 38955 [ex IU 17323] [mixed with paratypes]. Paralectotypes: CAS 38955 [ex IU 17323] (16, with lectotype); ?MCZ 20826 (1), 21064 (1), and 89559 (27); ?UMMZ 66510 (6). Additional original material: CAS 60728 [ex IU 17324] (2), 60729 [ex IU 17325] (1), 60730 [ex IU 17326] (1). Replaced by Astyanax bopiensis Ruiz-C., Román-Valencia, Taphorn, Buckup & Ortega 2018, but the two species are no longer secondary homonyms, so the original name has to be restored (ICZN Art. 59.4). Lectotype selected by Ruiz-C. et al. 2018:16 [ref. 35787]. •Valid as Astyanacinus multidens Pearson 1924 -- (Chang & Ortega 1995:2 [ref. 24302], Lima in Reis et al. 2003:107 [ref. 27061], Bertaco et al. 2010:266 [ref. 30864], Barriga Salazar 2014:106 [ref. 35745], Sarmiento et al. 2014:183 [ref. 35004], Dagosta 2024:93 [ref. 40817]). •Synonym of Astyanax bopiensis Ruiz-C., Román-Valencia, Taphorn, Buckup & Ortega 2018 -- (Ruiz-C. et al. 2018:16 [ref. 35787]). •Valid as Astyanax multidens (Pearson 1924) -- (Meza-Vargas et al. 2021:17 [ref. 39298], Ruiz-C. et al. 2023:199 [ref. 40361]). Current status: Valid as Astyanax multidens (Pearson 1924). Characidae: Stethaprioninae. Distribution: South America: upper Madeira River drainage, western Amazon River basin (Bolivia and Peru). Habitat: freshwater.
