Lectotype: ZMH H60 [ex 17758 in part]. Paralectotypes (3): ZMH H182 [ex 17758] (1). Type catalog: Ladiges et al. 1958:157 [ref. 19181], Wilkens & Dohse 1993:402 [ref. 21161]. Lectotype selected by Ladiges et al. 1958:157 [ref. 19181]. Also described by LAdiges 1938:50 [ref. 17153], which iss the formal scientific description, but it is predated by Ladiges in Arnold 1938 by four days. •Valid as Hyphessobrycon peruvianus Ladiges 1938 -- (Ortega & Vari 1986:8 [ref. 9708], Lima & Malabarba in Reis et al. 2003:139 [ref. 27061], Barriga Salazar 2014:107 [ref. 35745], Lima et al. 2014:177 [ref. 33535], Ohara & Lima 2015:570 [ref. 33846], Zarske 2015:295 [ref. 34028], Dagosta et al. 2016:258 [ref. 34377], Marinho et al. 2016:248 [ref. 34376], Marinho et al. 2016:519 [ref. 34591], Zarske 2016:112 [ref. 34774], DoNascimiento et al. 2017:50 [ref. 35633], Faria et al. 2020:374 [ref. 37543], Meza-Vargas et al. 2021:18 [ref. 39298]). Current status: Valid as Hyphessobrycon peruvianus Ladiges 1938. Characidae: Stethaprioninae. Distribution: South America: Amazon River basin (Ecuador, Peru, Colombia and Brazil). Habitat: freshwater.
