We assume Day revised the description in his style and may have taken information from the figure rather than quoting directly from Tickell. •Synonym of Osteobrama cotio (Hamilton 1822), but a valid subspecies -- (Talwar & Jhingran 1991:239 [ref. 20764], Menon 1999:65 [ref. 24904], Biju et al. 1999:481 [ref. 25439], Karmakar 2000:28 [ref. 25662], Vishwanath & Shanta Kumar 2007:2882 [ref. 29365], Jadhav et al. 2011:2080 [ref. 31547]). •Valid as Osteobrama cunma (Day 1888) -- (Kottelat 2013:134 [ref. 32989], Maisnam et al. 2017:13 [ref. 35689], Dhanze & Dhanze 2018:476 [ref. 36414], Rahman et al. 2018:116 [ref. 36230], Singh et al. 2018:362 [ref. 35172], Ren et al. 2020:[5] [ref. 37805], Shangningam et al. 2020:74 [ref. 37247]). Current status: Valid as Osteobrama cunma (Day 1888). Cyprinidae: Smiliogastrinae. Distribution: South Asia: Chindwin River drainage (Manipur) and Barak River drainage (Tripura, India) and Chindwin and Irrawaddy basins (Myanmar); possibly Bangladesh. Habitat: freshwater.
