bachus, Enchelyopus Forster [J. R.] in Bloch & Schneider 1801:53 [M. E. Blochii, Systema Ichthyologiae; ref. 471] Queen Charlotte Sound, New Zealand. Neotype: NMNZ P.054828. Based on description in manuscript by Forster (Johann Reinhold Forster, 1729-1798, German explorer and naturalist of Cook's second voyage). Spelled bacchus by authors; Lota bacchus Cuvier 1829:334 [ref. 995] is an incorrect subsequent spelling. Neotype selected by Gomon et al. 2021:120 [ref. 38435]. •Valid as Pseudophycis bachus (Forster 1801) -- (Paulin 1983:91 [ref. 5459], Paxton et al. 1989:302 [ref. 12442], Cohen in Cohen et al. 1990:373 [ref. 18936], Paulin in Amaoka et al. 1990:155 [ref. 16024], Paulin & Roberts 1992:130 [ref. 24625], Kuiter 1993:59 [ref. 23929], Gomon et al. 1994:333 [ref. 22532], Kuiter 1997:50 [ref. 25488], Paxton et al. 2006:616 [ref. 28995], Gomon 2008:313 [ref. 30616], Struthers et al. 2015:862 [ref. 34267], Gomon et al. 2021:117 [ref. 38435]). Current status: Valid as Pseudophycis bachus (Forster 1801). Moridae. Distribution: Southwestern Pacific: New Zealand region. Habitat: marine.
