The author states, Anthias (Pseudanthias) ventralis hawiiensis new species and subspecies (p. 9) and on p. 12 Anthias (Pseudanthias) ventralis ventralis new subspecies. The new taxa he is describing are the new species ventralis and the new subspecies hawaiiensis. The types of the subspecies hawaiiensis are not the types of the nominate subspecies ventralis. We regard the types on p. 9 as being the types of the subspecies hawaiiensis and the types of ventralis ventralis on p. 12 as the types of the new species ventralis. •Valid as Pseudanthias hawaiiensis (Randall 1979) -- (Randall 2005:146 [ref. 28239], Mundy 2005:343 [ref. 28379], Randall 2007:195 [ref. 30952], Anderson 2018:40 [ref. 36146], Parenti & Randall 2020:36 [ref. 37354], Shepherd et al. 2021:10 [ref. 38559]).
