striolatus, Serranus Playfair [R. L.] in Playfair & Günther 1867:11, Pl. 3 (fig. 2) [The fishes of Zanzibar; ref. 3490] Zanzibar, Tanzania, western Indian Ocean. Holotype: BMNH 1867.3.9.39 (stuffed). Striolatus is an adjective, so the correct spelling in the feminine genus Dermatolepis is striolata. •Valid as Dermatolepis striolatus (Playfair 1867) -- (Heemstra & Randall 1986:520 [ref. 5667], Heemstra & Randall 1993:68 [ref. 21042], Randall 1994:260 [ref. 21644], Randall 1995:127 [ref. 22896]). •Valid as Dermatolepis striolata (Playfair 1867) -- (Randall & Heemstra 1991:76 [ref. 19601], Manilo & Bogorodsky 2003:S104 [ref. 27377], Craig et al. 2011:69 [ref. 31786], Golani & Fricke 2018:62 [ref. 36273], Ma & Craig 2018:455 [ref. 36100], Zajonz et al. 2019:70 [ref. 36871], Parenti & Randall 2020:59 [ref. 37354], Heemstra 2022:46 [ref. 39742], Zajonz et al. 2022:70 [ref. 40522], Moazzam & Osmany 2023:665 [ref. 40722]). Current status: Valid as Dermatolepis striolata (Playfair 1867). Epinephelidae. Distribution: Southern Red Sea; Indian Ocean: KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa), East Africa, Gulf of Aden, Socotra (Yemen) and Gulf of Oman, Aldabra (Seychelles), Comoros, Madagascar; Sri Lanka. Habitat: marine.
