roseigaster, Apogon Ramsay [E. P.] & Ogilby [J. D.] 1887:1101 [Proceedings of the Linnean Society of New South Wales (Series 2) v. 1 (pt 4); ref. 18491] Parramatta River, New South Wales, Australia. Lectotype: AMS I.881. Paralectotypes: MCZ 27552 [ex AMS] (5). Appeared first in Ogilby 1887:1061 [ref. 27564] but perhaps not diagnostic, the only character mentioned being the "curius black lobe on each side of the tongue." May have appeared earlier as p. viii in 1886 (an abstract and different publication but the same as p. 1061). Lectotype selected by Gon & Allen 2012:60 [ref. 31960]; they regard MCZ 27552 (5) as S. cephalotes. •Valid as Siphamia roseigaster (Ramsay & Ogilby 1887)[sometimes as Ogilby 1886] -- (Allen & Swainston 1988:64 [ref. 25477], Paxton et al. 1989:558 [ref. 12442], Kuiter 1993:153 [ref. 23929], Allen 1997:100 [ref. 23977], Larson & Williams 1997:357 [ref. 23967], Allen 1999:2608 [ref. 24812], Johnson 1999:733 [ref. 25471] as rosiegaster, Allen et al. 2006:1108 [ref. 29004], Gon & Allen 2012:60 [ref. 31960], Larson et al. 2013:114 [ref. 32988] as rosiegaster, Mabuchi et al. 2014:201 [ref. 33426], Fraser & Prokofiev 2016:229 [ref. 34742], Kuiter & Kozawa 2019:143 [ref. 36965], Pogonoski et al. 2020:384 [ref. 37466]). Current status: Valid as Siphamia roseigaster (Ramsay & Ogilby 1887). Apogonidae: Apogoninae. Distribution: Eastern Indian Ocean, southwestern Pacific: Western Australia, Northern Territory, Queensland and New South Wales (Australia); southern Papua New Guinea. Habitat: marine.
