Lectotype: BMNH 1935.6.14.745. Paralectotypes: (several) BMNH 1935.6.14.738-743 (10), 1935.6.14.744 (1), 1935.6.14.746 (1), 1935.6.14.747-754 (14), 1935.6.14.755-765 (34), 1935.6.14.766-768 (4), 1935.6.14.769-777 (12); NMW 25636 (1); MNHN 1937-0170 (1). Type catalog: Blanc 1962:211 [ref. 20868]. Lectotype selected by Eccles & Trewavas 1989:55 [ref. 13547]. •Valid as Protomelas marginatus (Trewavas 1935) -- (Eccles & Trewavas 1989:53 [ref. 13547], Maréchal 1991:389 [ref. 20944], Konings 2016:320 [ref. 34521]). Current status: Valid as Protomelas marginatus (Trewavas 1935). Cichlidae: Pseudocrenilabrinae. Distribution: Eastern Africa: Lake Malawi. Habitat: freshwater.
