Lectotype: BMNH 1908.10.27.76. Paralectotypes: (16) BMNH 1908.10.27.77-82 (now 14), 1921.9.6.226 (1), one missing. Lectotype selected by Eccles & Trewavas 1989:207 [ref. 13547]. •Valid as Maravichromis plagiotaenia (Regan 1922) -- (Eccles & Trewavas 1989:206 [ref. 13547], Maréchal 1991:256 [ref. 20944]). •Valid as Mylochromis plagiotaenia (Regan 1922) -- (Konings 2016:301 [ref. 34521]). Current status: Valid as Mylochromis plagiotaenia (Regan 1922). Cichlidae: Pseudocrenilabrinae. Distribution: Eastern Africa: Lake Malawi. Habitat: freshwater.
