Lectotype: BMNH 1935.6.14.866. Paralectotypes: BMNH 1935.6.14.865 (1), 1935.6.14.867-869 (5). Lectotype selected by Eccles & Trewavas 1989:64 [ref. 13547]. •Valid as Protomelas taeniolatus (Trewavas 1935) -- (Eccles & Trewavas 1989:63 [ref. 13547], Maréchal 1991:392 [ref. 20944], Konings 2016:119 [ref. 34521]). Current status: Valid as Protomelas taeniolatus (Trewavas 1935). Cichlidae: Pseudocrenilabrinae. Distribution: Eastern Africa: Lake Malawi. Habitat: freshwater.
