Paralectotypes: BMNH 1906.9.6.140-143 (2), 1906.9.6.145 (1, skeleton), 1906.9.6.146-147 (2), 1906.9.6.148-150 (3); MNHN 1903-0173 [ex BMNH] (1). Type catalog: Blanc 1962:225 [ref. 20868]. Lectotype selected by Eccles & Trewavas 1989:47 [ref. 13547]. •Valid as Haplochromis pleurotaenia (Boulenger 1901) -- (Trewavas 1946:245 [ref. 35931]). •Valid as Protomelas pleurotaenia (Boulenger 1901) -- (Eccles & Trewavas 1989:46 [ref. 13547], Maréchal 1991:390 [ref. 20944], Konings 2016:294 [ref. 34521]). Current status: Valid as Protomelas pleurotaenia (Boulenger 1901). Cichlidae: Pseudocrenilabrinae. Distribution: Eastern Africa: Lake Malawi. Habitat: freshwater.
