Holotype (unique): BMNH 1902.7.29.56. •Valid as Aequidens sapayensis (Regan 1903) -- (Ovchynnyk 1967:42 [ref. 37559], Kullander in Reis et al. 2003:609 [ref. 27061]). •Valid as Andinoacara sapayensis (Regan 1903) -- (Musilová et al. 2009:7 [ref. 30201], Schindler & Morgenstern 2010:121 [ref. 31245], Wijkmark et al. 2012:118 [ref. 32299], Barriga Salazar 2014:118 [ref. 35745] as Andinocara, Jiménez-Prado et al. 2015:329 [ref. 34894], Musilová et al. 2015:339 [ref. 35426], DoNascimiento et al. 2017:99 [ref. 35633]). Current status: Valid as Andinoacara sapayensis (Regan 1903). Cichlidae: Cichlinae. Distribution: South America: Pacific coast (Colombia and Ecuador). Habitat: freshwater.
