Holotype (unique): BMNH 1911.10.31.496. Current status: Valid as Serrasalmus eigenmanni Norman 1929. Serrasalmidae: Serrasalminae. Distribution: South America: Amazon River basin and northern and eastern Guiana Shield rivers (Brazil, Colombia, Bolivia, French Guiana, Guyana, Peru, Suriname and Venezuela). Habitat: freshwater.
