Type catalog: Henn 1928:69 [ref. 12305], Ibarra & Stewart 1987:79 [ref. 12367]. A neotype (UMSS 10348) was selected by Gallo-Cardozo et al. 2023:[5] [ref. 40628] without commenting on the existing holotype (FMNH 56978), or proving that the holotype might be lost (also in an electronic publication without ZooBank registration); this neotype designation is therefore invalid. •Valid as Serrasalmus hollandi Eigenmann 1915 -- (Jégu & Santos 2001:136 [ref. 25562], Lasso et al. 2001:96 [ref. 25928], Jégu in Reis et al. 2003:190 [ref. 27061], Machado-Allison et al. 2009:128 [ref. 30953], Hubert & Renno 2010:58 [ref. 31099], Sarmiento et al. 2014:187 [ref. 35004], DoNascimiento et al. 2017:38 [ref. 35633], Careaga et al. 2020:76 [ref. 37774], Silvano et al. 2020:188 [ref. 38133], Gallo-Cardozo et al. 2023:[5] [ref. 40628], Ota et al. 2024:425 [ref. 40817], Gallo-Cardozo et al. 2024:18 [ref. 40973]). Current status: Valid as Serrasalmus hollandi Eigenmann 1915. Serrasalmidae: Serrasalminae. Distribution: South America: Amazon and Madeira River basin and ?Guyana rivers (Brazil, Colombia, Bolivia and ?Guiana). Habitat: freshwater.
