norvegica, Perca Ascanius [P.] 1772:7, Pl. 16 [Icones rerum naturalium, ou figures enluminĂ©es d'histoire naturelle du Nord; ref. 5115] Norway. No types known. Originally Perca (Norvegica). Replaces Sebastes marinus (Linnaeus 1758), which was based on a serranid. See Cuvier & Valenciennes 1829:xxj, 327 [ref. 998]. Fernholm & Wheeler 1983:238-240 [ref. 20707] pointed out that the sources for the species description in 1758 were referable to Serranus. •Synonym of Sebastes marinus (Linnaeus 1758) -- (Blanc & Hureau 1973:583 [ref. 7218], Hureau & Litvinenko in Whitehead et al. 1986:1225 [ref. 13677], Robins & Ray 1986:277 [ref. 23100], Scott & Scott 1988:483 [ref. 25518], Ishida in Okamura et al. 1995:151 [ref. 22531], Parin et al. 2002:S62 [ref. 28300], Fricke 2007:25 [ref. 30577], Møller et al. 2010:51 [ref. 31169]). •Valid as Sebastes norvegicus (Ascanius 1772) -- (McAllister 1990:188 [ref. 14674], Nelson et al. 2004:115 [ref. 27807], Mecklenburg et al. 2011:121 [ref. 31212], Page et al. 2013:118 [ref. 32708], Parin et al. 2014:218 [ref. 33547], Afonso et al. 2016:40, 276 [ref. 36199], Mecklenburg et al. 2018:177 [ref. 36370], Carneiro et al. 2019:229 [ref. 37250], Simian et al. 2022:376 [ref. 40776]). Current status: Valid as Sebastes norvegicus (Ascanius 1772). Scorpaenidae: Sebastinae. Distribution: North Atlantic (including northern North Sea, western Baltic Sea, Barents Sea). Habitat: marine.
