karongae, Tilapia Trewavas [E.] 1941:298, 302, Figured [Annals and Magazine of Natural History (Series 11) v. 7 (no. 39); ref. 12736] Karonga, near the northern end of Lake Malawi [Lake Nyasa], Malawi, southeastern Africa. Holotype: BMNH 1935.6.14.40. Paratypes: (16) BMNH 1935.6.14.41 (1), 1935.6.14.33-37 (5) and .52-56 (5) and .72-75 (4). •Valid as Oreochromis karongae (Trewavas 1941) -- (Trewavas 1981:42 [ref. 39520], Trewavas & Teugels 1991:317 [ref. 20954], Poll & Gosse 1995:289 [ref. 24781], Snoeks & Hanssens 2004:288 [ref. 28117], Konings 2016:313 [ref. 34521], Ford et al. 2019:223 [ref. 36713]). Current status: Valid as Oreochromis karongae (Trewavas 1941). Cichlidae: Pseudocrenilabrinae. Distribution: East Africa: Lake Malawi basin. Habitat: freshwater.
