Type catalog: Ferraris 2007:331 [ref. 29155]. The species epithet is an indeclinable noun. Grant 2021:40 [ref. 38702] maintains platynemum which he considers in prevailing usage. •Valid as Goslinia platynema (Boulenger 1898) -- (Burgess 1989:282 [ref. 12860], Chang & Ortega 1995:4 [ref. 24302], Camargo & Isaac 2001:145 [ref. 27639], Lundberg & Littmann in Reis et al. 2003:436 [ref. 27061]). •Valid as Brachyplatystoma platynema Boulenger 1898 -- (Lundberg & Akama 2005:498 [ref. 28312], Ferraris 2007:331 [ref. 29155], Barriga Salazar 2014:114 [ref. 35745], Sarmiento et al. 2014:164, 192 [ref. 35004], DoNascimiento et al. 2017:92 [ref. 35633], Grant 2021:40 [ref. 38702] as platynemum, Meza-Vargas et al. 2021:23 [ref. 39298] as platynemum, Lasso & Morales-Betancourt in Lasso & Morales-Betancourt 2022:222 [ref. 40783]). Current status: Valid as Brachyplatystoma platynema Boulenger 1898. Pimelodidae. Distribution: South America: Amazon and Orinoco River basins (Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela). Habitat: freshwater.
