Distribution: Indo-West Pacific: East Africa, Seychelles, Comoros, Saint Brandon's Shoals (Cargados Carajos) and western Mascarenes (La Réunion, Mauritius) east to Marshall Islands and Society Islands, north to Ryukyu Islands and southern Japan, south to Western Australia and Queensland, New Caledonia and Samoa. Former Red Sea records are now assigned to E. altipinnis Clark 1980. Habitat: marine.
