Paratypes: AMNH 97301 (1); AMS I.34236-001 [ex BPBM 33353] (1); BMNH 1993.9.25.1 (1); BPBM 33308 (1), 33353 (3); USNM 326758 (1, c&s). •Valid as Xenisthmus balius Gill & Randall 1994 -- (Randall 1995:345 [ref. 22896], Carpenter et al. 1997:215 [ref. 23922], Gill & Hoese 2004:242 [ref. 27774], Gill et al. 2017:209 [ref. 35404], Golani & Fricke 2018:165 [ref. 36273], Eagderi et al. 2019:120 [ref. 37020], Zajonz et al. 2019:97 [ref. 36871] as cf. balius, Parenti 2021:57 [ref. 38603], Gill 2022:200 [ref. 40139], Bogorodsky & Goren 2023:27 [ref. 40247]). Current status: Valid as Xenisthmus balius Gill & Randall 1994. Xenisthmidae. Distribution: Red Sea; northwestern Indian Ocean: Gulf of Oman and Persian Gulf. Habitat: marine.
