Holotype: USNM 333306. Paratypes: ISH 125-1966 (1); USNM 333287 (1); ZIN 51058 (1); ZMMU P-19991 (1), P-19993-20000 (1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 7, 4, 2); plus more paratypes at USNM. Type catalog: Vasil'eva et al. 2001:41-42 [ref. 25714]. On p. 562 of English translation. The gender of Astronesthes is feminine, and atlanticus an adjective; therefore ending atlantica is correct. •Valid as Astronesthes atlanticus Parin & Borodulina 1996 -- (Harold 2003:895 [ref. 27001], Parin & Borodulina 2003:596 [ref. 27333], Harold 2016:1799 [ref. 34568], Brown et al. 2019:158 [ref. 36444], Carneiro et al. 2019:93 [ref. 37250], Sutton et al. 2020:88 [ref. 37832], Fermon et al. 2022:172 [ref. 39448] possible, Page et al. 2023:86 [ref. 40505]). •Valid as Astronesthes atlantica Parin & Borodulina 1996 -- (Eduardo et al. 2022:6 [ref. 39574], Villarins et al. 2022:31 [ref. 39442]). Current status: Valid as Astronesthes atlantica Parin & Borodulina 1996. Stomiidae: Astronesthinae. Distribution: Atlantic: 35°N to 40°S. Habitat: marine.
