Holotype: USNM 292317. Paratypes: AMS I.27172-002 (2); CSIRO H 529-03 (1); SAM 27621 (1); USNM 274412 (2), 274430 (1), 301216 (1), 322327 (2), 322349 (7), 333295 (11), 322297 (7); ZIN 51057 (1); ZMMU P-19977 (2); plus more paratypes at AMS, SAM, USNM and ZMMU. Type catalog: Vasil'eva et al. 2001:42 [ref. 25714]. On p. 560 of English translation. The gender of Astronesthes is feminine, and bilobatus an adjective; therefore ending bilobata is correct. •Valid as Astronesthes bilobatus Parin & Borodulina 1996 -- (Parin & Borodulina 2003:596 [ref. 27333], Mundy 2005:173 [ref. 28379], Paxton et al. 2006:435 [ref. 28995], Kenaley et al. 2008:241 [ref. 30630], Fricke et al. 2018:67 [ref. 35805], Fricke et al. 2019:62 [ref. 36673]). •Valid as Astronesthes bilobata Parin & Borodulina 1996 -- (Nakabo 2000:326 [ref. 25086], Nakabo 2002:326 [ref. 26001]). Current status: Valid as Astronesthes bilobata Parin & Borodulina 1996. Stomiidae: Astronesthinae. Distribution: Indo-West Pacific: East and South Africa east to Hawaiian and Line islands, north to Ogasawara Islands, south to Tasmania (Australia); waifs reaching southeastern Atlantic off South Africa. Habitat: marine.
