Paratypes: MUMF 3028A (7), 3028B (2). Apparently in caption to Fig. 2 and on p. 132 and p. 135 appearing as omatus; otherwise as ornatus; a type-setting error. •Valid as Puntius ornatus Vishwanath & Laisram 2004 -- (Shantakumar & Vishwanath 2006:2279 [ref. 28676], Kullander 2008:81 [ref. 29716]). •Valid as Pethia ornata (Vishwanath & Laisram 2004) (often seen as ornatus) -- (Pethiyagoda et al. 2012:81 [ref. 32071], Mayanglambam & Vishwanath 2013:88 [ref. 32976], Kottelat 2013:141 [ref. 32989], Shangningam & Vishwanath 2018:590 [ref. 35803], Shangningam et al. 2020:332 [ref. 37259]). •Perhaps a synonym of Pethia canius (Vishwanath & Larisram 2004) -- (Knight 2013:182 [ref. 32828]). Current status: Valid as Pethia ornata (Vishwanath & Laisram 2004). Cyprinidae: Smiliogastrinae. Distribution: Lokchao River drainage, Chindwin-Irrawaddy basin, Manipur, India. Habitat: freshwater.
