Holotype: MZUSP 100375. Paratypes: MCP 43325 (45), MZUSP 100376 (102, 3 c&s). Plus non-type specimens at DZSJRP and ICLIMA. Name is a noun in apposition. •Valid as Astyanax xavante Garutti & Venere 2009 -- (Marinho et al. 2015:576 [ref. 33708], da Graça et al. 2017:13 [ref. 35556], Oliveira et al. 2017:180 [ref. 35587]). •Valid as Psalidodon xavante (Garutti & Venere 2009) -- (Terán et al. 2020:11 [ref. 37440]). Current status: Valid as Psalidodon xavante (Garutti & Venere 2009). Characidae: Stethaprioninae. Distribution: Rio Araguaia basin, Mato Grosso, Brazil. Habitat: freshwater.
