Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers make essential contributions to the ongoing success of the Academy. Academy Library volunteers contribute in many ways to Academy Library activities:

  • assisting in the development and design of Web pages
  • developing geographic information systems (GIS)
  • assisting in responding to correspondence from school children
  • providing current awareness services to Academy scientific staff
  • doing technical services processing of materials
  • maintaining records of gifts, serials holdings, new acquisitions
  • helping to shelve materials, file maps, and other clerical tasks
The Academy Library can work with you to plan your volunteer experience. Options include:
  • short-term, project-based efforts
  • academic internships (which are often linked to a prescribed academic term)
  • ongoing, long-term commitments
To discuss specific opportunities for volunteering in the Main Library, contact Lawrence Currie, Academy Librarian (415-321-8038). To volunteer in other departments of the Academy, contact Rosalind Henning in the Volunteer Services Department (415-321-8111).
