One of the evening events, the collections tours and two workshops will take place at the California Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate Park. Due to limited parking, taking public transportation or carpooling is strongly advised. The Hotel Kabuki is an easy bus or taxi ride.

The conference will be held at the Hotel Kabuki in the Japantown neighborhood of San Francisco.
SPNHC-rate rooms at Hotel Kabuki are gone: We had a block of rooms at the Hotel Kabuki for conference attendees at a dramatically discounted rate; however, despite increasing our block several times, we've now sold out of SPNHC-rate rooms at Hotel Kabuki. The Hotel Kabuki has arranged a special SPNHC rate at their sister property, the Hotel Tomo. Hotel Tomo is also located in San Francisco's Japantown, less than two blocks from Hotel Kabuki. Our SPNHC rate at Hotel Tomo is $159 per night for the dates May 22 to 28 only. Please see the booking link at the side of this web page - or you can book your room by phone: call 1-415-921-4000 and ask for the "SPNHC" rate. (If you are not sharing a room, please book a King room rather than a Double-Double to save the two-bedded rooms for folks who plan to share.) Please note there are several other events in San Francisco during mid- to late-May so hotel rooms in general are likely to fill.
Parking (without in-and-out privileges) is available for $16.00 per 24-hours at the Japan Center Garage.
University of California, Berkeley
One of our field trips and a georeferencing workshop will be held on the campus of University of California, Berkeley. There is no parking on campus and parking near the campus can also be quite difficult. Taking public transportation is probably your best option.
Airport
The nearest airport is the San Francisco International (SFO) which is about 30 minutes from San Francisco. Oakland International (OAK) is also an option and is about 50 minutes from San Francisco.

BART and MUNI
BART operates rapid rail service to San Francisco from SFO and OAK. MUNI operates buses and subways within San Francisco.
Directions from SFO
The SFO BART Station is located on the Departures/Ticketing Level of the International Terminal (Boarding Area G side). BART is easily accessed from any terminal by riding SFO's AirTrain to the Garage G/BART Station stop. There is no charge to board AirTrain.
To take BART from SFO to the Hotel Kabuki – ride the BART (Pittsburgh/Bay Point train) to the Montgomery Street station, exit the station, walk to the west corner of Market and Montgomery streets, board the MUNI 38L Geary bus (outbound), ride approximately 15 minutes to Geary Blvd. and Laguna St., walk 2 blocks to the Hotel Kabuki.
Directions from OAK
BART is easily accessed from either terminal by riding OAK's AirBART to the BART Coliseum/Oakland Airport station stop. There is a $2.00 charge to board AirBART. There is a single AirBART stop for both terminals, conveniently located between Terminal 1 and 2 at OAK's third curbside.

Tickets and Fares
BART ticket machines accept nickels, dimes, quarters, $1, $5, $10, and $20 bills. You can also use a credit card in select machines at all stations.
MUNI buses accept cash fares only, with no change given. Machines accept coins and dollar bills. Please enter the bus through the front door and be sure to take your proof of payment from the driver. Shared-ride vans
Shared ride vans (e.g., Super Shuttle) offer van service from both airports to passenger-specified locations. The shuttles from OAK are more expensive than those from SFO. At SFO, all vans pick up from the roadway center island at the Departures/Ticketing Level at all terminals. Vans are available on a walk-up basis and only require a reservation for your return trip to the airport. More information can be found at:

Weather
The San Francisco Bay Area is known for its “microclimates” which means that within the City of San Francisco you can go from sunny and mild to foggy and cold without traveling very far.
