Who is eligible to rent a kit?
Educators who have participated in a workshop for a kit are eligible to rent one. During the workshop you will participate in the kit activities, explore the science content, and learn about methods for using the materials to engage students in science.
How do I participate in a training workshop?
Each fall, we offer a select number of Kit Training workshops at the Academy that you can sign up for.
We anticipate running Kit Trainings in November and December 2018, with registrations opening up in August when teachers come back to school. Stay tuned!
In the meantime, fill out this brief form to let us know your interest! We will work with you to try to schedule the workshop of your choice at a time that works for all of us.
- We require a minimum of 5 teachers to do a special workshop, and the special training will cost $25 per teacher.
- We are happy to travel to a school site in the Bay Area to run the training.
- Alternatively, when we find a critical mass of teachers who would like to be trained on the same kit, we'll host a training at the Academy for you!
Okay, I'm trained in my preferred kit. How can I reserve it today?
Call (877) 227-3311 to make a kit reservation. Once the kit is reserved, you can pick it up at the California Academy of Sciences and return it to us 3 weeks later. The lending fee is $25 for three weeks.
Do the kits support any standards?
Yes, most of our kits support implementation of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). Science is brought to life through engaging opportunities for hands-on learning. We are in the process of updating each kit for the NGSS.
Can I purchase a kit?
Unfortunately, most kits are full of specimens and special materials that are not mass-produced. Teachers must pick up their kit at the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco, CA. If you live far away, consider the kits and curriculum that we offer nationwide through Science Action Club!
