Low Floor, High Ceiling: Making Science Tasks More Spacious (Grades K - 12)
How might we design tasks for students that involve easy access points for all learners, and the potential for extended thinking? How can this approach foster a positive science identity for all students? In this workshop, participate in example activities and consider how to bring these ideas into your own classroom.
Low Floor, High Ceiling experiences are those with BOTH easy access points for all learners (low floor), AND the potential for expansive thinking (high ceiling). They are tasks with space inside of them for learning to happen, and have been present in math learning for many years. In this online workshop, we pose the question, “What do Low Floor, High Ceiling experiences look like in science, and how can they foster a positive science identity for all students?” Participate in example activities, discuss the benefits and characteristics of this approach with your peers, and consider how to bring these ideas into your own classroom.
This workshop was designed for teachers of grades K-12. All educators are welcome.

How do I join?
This workshop will take place via Zoom. Pre-registration is required. The Academy's professional development team will send the Zoom Meeting ID to registered educators a few days before the event.
Tickets are $25 for this 1.5-hour workshop. A limited number of tickets are available, and registration will close on or before Tuesday, December 1.
