Genus should have been Callichthys (see Grant 2018:26 [ref. 36057]). Secondary homonym of Cataphractus punctatus Bloch 1794 when in Corydoras. Name available from plate, description in Valenciennes 1847:8 [ref. 5010] as Callichthys punctatus. See also Valenciennes in Cuvier & Valenciennes 1840:318 [ref. 1008].
