Red and Black Striped snake, Bothrophthalmus lineatus

Family Colubridae. This large colubrid is apparently nocturnal; our single specimen was collected at 2300 hrs. crossing Buhoma Road at about 1500 m.

Size: to 1280 mm.

Habitat: terrestrial in wetter tropical forests; in Uganda inhabits most forest remnants east to and including Mabira Forest.

Range: Angola, Congo and Uganda, west to Sierra Leone.
