Black-bellied Slug-eating Snake, Duberria atriventris

Family Colubridae. This species occurs both within and outside BINP, and feeds almost exclusively on slugs. It is remarkably convergent with Contia tenuis, a snake of Western North America, which also eats only slugs and looks nearly identical to D. lutrix, a slug-eater from Kenya.

Size: to 434 mm. TL

Habitat: upland open areas from 1000 - 3000 m.

Range: Western Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, eastern Congo, northwestern Tanzania.
