Forest Vine Snake, Thelotornis kirtlandi

Family Colubridae. This is one of only two venomous members of this family, and some human fatalities have been recorded.

Our specimen was found on the forest floor under moderate canopy.

Size: to 1524 mm. SV.

Habitat: trees and bushes, but can be found on ground; probably found in all remaining primary forest habitats in Uganda.

Range: Somalia, Kenya Tanzania, Uganda, Congo, Angola, Congo-Brazzaville, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Nigeria, Cameroon, Togo, Benin, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea and Guinea-Bissau.
