Rhinoceros-horned Viper, Bitis nasicornis

Family Viperidae. This species is probably more widespread in BINP than indicated by museum collections; in spite of massive body, it is a good climber, probably feeding on small primates and other mammals. Coloration and pattern serve to camouflage this animal on the forest floor.

Size: massive, to 1.2 m.

Habitat: terrestrial in primary forest below 1600 m.

Range: Southern Sudan, western Kenya through Uganda, Congo and Angola to Guinea.
