Filicrisia geniculata Milne-Edwards, 1838
In the cyclostome genus Filicrisia there may be up to five zooecia per internode, with the internodes separated by the dark-banded nodes seen in the lower magnification view. To distinguish F. geniculata from the similar species F. franciscana, the opening to the ovicell must be examined. In F. geniculata, this opening, called the ooeciostome (red arrow in the detail view), is set near the dorsal border with its tube bent forward. In F. franciscana the ooeciostome is set on the frontal border with its tube bent backward. This example was collected at Pier 39.
